Holistic Fourth-Trimester Care for Mom, Baby & Family

The newborn days are hard enough. The support shouldn't be.

In-home postpartum support for your fourth trimester. Comprehensive care for mom, baby, and family.

Mother breastfeeding newborn at home

Welcome.

Starbloom Healthcare brings comprehensive postpartum support into your home. In your fourth trimester, you shouldn't need five different providers—you need one person who sees you whole: your body, your baby, your feeding journey, your family, and the person you're becoming.

For more than two decades I've helped new families find their footing — as a registered nurse, a board-certified lactation consultant, and a nurse practitioner. I've seen what happens when new families get both — skilled hands and a calm presence. When someone listens to your whole story, not just your feeding question. When you're asked how you're doing, not just if baby is gaining weight. Starbloom is the care I always wished every family could have: unhurried, judgment-free, and right where you already are — home.

No rushing you out the door with a photocopied handout. Just knowledgeable help from someone who has seen it all and still shows up with warmth.

Who this is for

If any of this sounds like you…

  • Feeding hurts, or feels like a full-time job nobody trained you for
  • You're bleeding more than you expected or your incision isn't healing as fast as you thought it would
  • You're not sure baby is getting enough
  • You're breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, combo-feeding, or exclusively pumping — and tired of the noise about the "right" way
  • Someone flagged baby's weight or jaundice and you want experienced eyes on it
  • Your baby came early, spent time in the NICU, or arrived before their due date
  • You just want someone knowledgeable in your corner when it counts

Then you're in the right place. Every feeding journey belongs here — no scripts, no shame, no "shoulds." And whatever else is happening in your postpartum — the exhaustion, the uncertainty, the overwhelm — that belongs here too. I meet you whole.

How I can help

Services

Every visit is tailored to your family's unique needs—rooted in the four dimensions of your fourth-trimester care. Here's what I offer:

Prenatal Preparation

Most families prepare for the birth and not for what comes after. This in-home visit covers the part nobody walks you through: how you'll feed your baby, how your body will recover, who will help, and what to do when something feels off.

  • Feeding preparation: breastfeeding, pumping, bottles, or a combination, and what to set up before the first feed
  • Your postpartum plan: recovery supplies, rest, nutrition, and what normal healing looks like
  • Newborn basics: sleep, output, weight, jaundice, and when to call the pediatrician
  • Mapping your support: who is helping, who isn't, and what to ask for ahead of time
  • Mood and anxiety awareness: what's common, what isn't, and who to call

Best in the last weeks of pregnancy. Partners and support people are welcome.

First-Week Visit

A calm, thorough visit in your first days home. I do a newborn physical assessment, a full latch and feeding evaluation, weight check, jaundice screening, and leave you with a plan you can actually follow without a spreadsheet. I also check in on how you're doing — your body, your nervous system state, and what support you have right now. Because the fourth trimester isn't just about milk and weight; it's about you rooting down and finding your ground.

Postpartum Mother Visit

Everyone asks about the baby. This visit is about you. A postpartum nurse comes to your home to check how you're healing, how you're sleeping, and how you're feeling, and to make sure you're not carrying it alone.

  • Recovery check: bleeding, perineal or incision healing, pain, energy, and what to watch for
  • Mood and anxiety screening with validated tools, and warm referrals when you need more support
  • Sleep, nutrition, and nervous-system strategies that fit a newborn schedule
  • Medication and breastfeeding questions, so you walk into your prescriber's office prepared
  • Support planning for partner, family, and community
  • Body image, identity, intimacy, and the grief when birth didn't go as planned

Includes a written plan and follow-up support. When something needs a doctor's eyes, I'll tell you plainly and help you get to the right person.

Lactation & Feeding Support

Painful latch, low or oversupply, pumping, bottles, weaning — or a feeding journey that doesn't feel connected — whatever stage you're in, we work through it together. We sort out what's happening with your body and your baby's rhythm, and shape it around your life and your values.

Newborn Care & Monitoring

Weight and output tracking, jaundice checks, and the feeding rhythms that help baby and you find your groove together. Coaching that helps you trust your own instincts, calm your nervous system, and know when to ask for help. You'll know your baby; I'll help you trust what you know.

Early Arrivals & NICU Graduates

Focused support for late preterm and early-term babies and NICU graduates — the feeding and weight-gain hurdles that come with an earlier or smaller start, and the closer follow-up they deserve.

Medication & Breastfeeding Guidance

Evidence-based answers on how specific medications and breastfeeding fit together, so you walk into your provider's office already informed. I don't replace your prescriber — I make sure you're ready for the conversation.

About

Your Fourth-Trimester Nurse

I'm a postpartum nurse — registered nurse, board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), and family nurse practitioner (FNP-C) — with a master's in nursing and over 20 years in maternal-newborn care and primary care. My specialty is the fourth trimester: everything that happens in those first six weeks home with your baby. I completed a fellowship in Breastfeeding & Lactation Medicine and have advanced training in postpartum mental health screening. My work is rooted in the belief that postpartum matters — not just for milk and weight, but for your body, your mind, your family, and the person you're becoming in this new season.

My approach comes down to two things: meeting you without judgment, and being straight with you. Fed is the goal, and there's more than one good way to get there. I also see you — not just your feeding challenge, but your whole postpartum experience, your support network, and what matters to your family. If something falls outside what I do — or needs a doctor's eyes — I'll say so plainly and help you get to the right person.

My framework

How I See You: The Four Roots of Care

Every visit I hold you whole — across four dimensions that matter:

Rooted

Your Body

I assess your physical recovery — perineal healing, pain, sleep, energy, nervous system state. What's normal? What needs medical eyes? How does your body feel as it transitions?

Blooming

Your Connection

I watch how you and baby find your rhythm together. Feeding synchrony, eye contact, cues you're reading — and where the connection feels disrupted. I help you build confidence in the relationship you're creating.

Context

Your Support

I see your family system — partner involvement, family dynamics, who's helping and who's absent, what support you actually have versus what you need. I help you name what's working and what needs shoring up.

Your Values

What Matters to You

I honor how YOUR family wants to feed, parent, and move through this season. Not textbook rules. Not judgment. Your feeding journey, your family's way, your values. That's the goal.

Rooted in care. Blooming in connection. That's how I work.

Why you might see me

Feeding is painful or overwhelming. Or you're anxious and don't know if it's normal. Or because your body doesn't feel like yours anymore. Or because your partner and you are barely talking and feeding feels like a flashpoint. Or because your baby came early and you're terrified every second.

Or because you're exhausted in a way that doesn't lift with sleep. Or because you feel like you're failing at all of this. Or because you just want someone knowledgeable in your corner who gets how hard this is.

All of this belongs here. That's the point of fourth-trimester care — not fixing one thing, but helping you and your family root down and bloom into this new season together.

The process

Simple, from hello to follow-up

Send me a note

Tell me a little about you and baby — what's going on and what you need.

We schedule

We find a home visit time that fits your days — no waiting rooms, no packing up a newborn.

I come to you

An unhurried visit in your own space. We work through everything together — feeding, your body's recovery, your emotions, your questions about what's normal — at your pace. This is rooted care.

I leave you with a plan

A written care plan and follow-up support after every visit. You're never left to figure it out alone.

Nurse providing newborn care at home

For Referring Providers

I'm a registered nurse with family nurse practitioner (FNP-C) training and can recognize and screen for postpartum mental health concerns using validated tools. However, I'm not a therapist or psychiatrist—I don't diagnose or treat psychiatric conditions. I coordinate warm referrals to mental health providers as needed, and I'm here to hold the whole postpartum picture while families get the specialized care they require.

Refer for postpartum care beyond feeding when patients present with:

Maternal Physical Recovery & Wellness

  • Sleep disruption (circadian dysregulation, intrusive thoughts)
  • Fatigue beyond normal newborn patterns
  • Pain management questions
  • Hormonal mood shifts

Postpartum Mental Health & Nervous System State

  • Anxiety symptoms (hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, catastrophizing)
  • Screening-positive for postpartum depression or anxiety
  • Birth trauma or PTSD symptoms
  • Panic attacks or feeling 'wired and tired'
  • Intrusive thoughts about baby/self safety

Feeding Challenges & Newborn Monitoring

  • Painful latch, low output, or disconnected feeding journey
  • Exclusively pumping or combination feeding
  • Early-term or late-preterm infants
  • NICU graduates (feeding assessment, weight tracking)

Family System & Support Adequacy

  • Inadequate partner support or family involvement
  • Relationship stress or communication breakdown
  • Isolation or lack of community support
  • Cultural disconnect from mainstream messaging

Identity & Body Image Shifts

  • Difficulty recognizing herself postpartum
  • Conflict between motherhood and pre-pregnancy identity
  • Questions about sexuality and intimacy
  • Grief about unmet birth/postpartum expectations

Kind words

What families are saying

I felt so relieved and more empowered to continue breastfeeding after just the first visit.

— Ally, San Pablo

The hospital after discharge does not prepare you for the new challenges I faced when I got home. I was already thinking about quitting. This home visit was a game changer for me.

— Katherine, Oakland

Nice lady, kind and helpful. Baby and I appreciate your help.
